Belonging

Groups / Choirs

The congregation gathers in smaller circles through the week: the choirs that lead our worship, the fellowships that meet house to house, and the groups that serve the church and one another.

KWAYA YA VIJANA

Founded 1984

The parish's first choir, begun the same year the congregation moved into a classroom at Mbezi Primary School. The idea was Ms Witness Lema's, and there was nowhere indoors to practise: the young singers rehearsed at Makondeko, under the trees.

Kwaya Kuu

Founded 1996

Formed when the choir that sang for special occasions was made the main choir, with Mwl Bertha Kaguo as its teacher. Mr Frank Lema paid the choirmaster and bought the uniforms out of his own pocket in those first years. Mwl Nyenga, Mwl Godidodi and Mwl Leah Tweve each took the choir in turn as it learnt to sing from notation.

Kwaya ya Uinjilisti

Founded 1995

Started on a suggestion from Mwl Mlundi, newly arrived from Kijitonyama, and first led by Mrs Bertha Kaguo with Mrs Mlundi assisting. It began in the year the congregation was locked out of the school and built its own church in twenty-eight days.

KWAYA YA BETHEL

Founded 2005

Began as the women's choir, on a proposal by Mrs Frank Lema, then chairwoman of the women. In 2012, under Mrs Lilian Silaa, sixteen singers set about strengthening it and it took the name Bethel. The choir recorded two albums, and put the proceeds into the parish nursery school.

Fellowship

Founded 1994

Founded while the congregation still worshipped in a classroom, by Mr and Mrs Daniel Lema, Mr and Mrs John Kanafunzi, Mr Samson Herman and Evangelist Emmanuel Frank. It carried the gospel out beyond Mbezi to the settlements around, and bought Evangelist Emmanuel Frank a bicycle so he could reach them. The parish's first great evangelistic meeting, in November 1995, was its work.
